🚀 MakerList #7: Marketing during COVID-19
Hey there! Grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and browse through these five articles:
1. Founders struggle to communicate during the COVID-19 crisis
Marketing has always been hard, but it’s even harder nowadays. The COVID-19 crisis is on everyone’s minds, and it seems to be all people want to read about. So what should you do when no one seems to care about your product? Channing Allen from Indie Hackers hits the nail on the head when he says “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”
2. How I got to 200 productive hours a month
A lot of us are still getting used to working at home instead of at the office. Ivan Mir’s article on how he prepares his environment, his body, and his mind to help him be more productive when working from home is a great starting point for those of us new to remote work and perhaps finding ourselves getting distracted on YouTube and Reddit.
3. How I Got To #1 on Product Hunt as a Nobody
There are lots of great actionable tips in Yusuf Qabil’s article about how he launched One Profile on Product Hunt and got to #1 organically. I especially like his suggestion to launch a usable and well-designed product—ideally when you already have an audience.
4. Link Building Case Study: How I Increased My Search Traffic by 110% in 14 Days
In this article, Brian Dean talks about the “Skyscraper Technique”, which is a dead-simple technique to create great content that ranks on Google. It consists of finding link-worthy content, making something objectively better, and then reaching out to the right people about it.
5. 7 Practical Tips for Cheating at Design
I love these simple tips from Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger about how to make your designs look better. They point out mistakes that are easy for non-designers to make (like trying to create hierarchy by overusing font size, instead of also using color and weight), and they have fantastic examples of before and after their improvements are applied, which really allows you to see the positive difference that they make.
